Up, Down, and Away
Alan Doyle, actor, producer, newly-minted best-selling author, and lead singer for Newfoundland’s beloved Great Big Sea these past 20+ years, released his second solo album, So Let’s Go, earlier this year. The title-track lead single “So Let’s Go,” is a rousing rallying cry that’s only further proof of Doyle’s ability to draw the listener under his banner. This evening with Doyle and his stellar six-piece band will feature songs from his solo records along with Great Big Sea favorites and some unpredictable gems from far-flung places that are sure to thrill. As Doyle himself says, “I always want people to have the greatest night of their life when the house lights go down.”
Sometimes in order to really find yourself, you have to lose yourself. Just ask Royal Wood, whose latest record, the breathtakingly poignant The Burning Bright, captures his truest, most confident musical voice even as it chronicles an extraordinary year of tumult, travel and personal discovery.
The Burning Bright registers a number of firsts for Wood, whose chart-topping 2012 release, the JUNO-nominated We Were Born to Glory, firmly established him as one of Canada's most accomplished alt-pop singer/songwriters, producers, arrangers and multi-instrumentalists.
Since being proclaimed as “Songwriter of the Year” by iTunes, this Toronto-based Canadian has continued to evolve and hone his musical craft – maintaining an unmistakable identity while uncovering and reinventing his sound.
