River House Restaurant Concert Series
July 1 - August 29, 2009– 7:00PM

It's what all the buzz is about. Take a look at this group of "Do Not Miss" musicians performing in Prescott Park this summer.

Tom Rush
July 1, 2009
Rush's impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk revival in the '60s and the renaissance of the '80s and '90s, his music having left its stamp on generations of artists. James Taylor says "Tom was one of my main influences". His shows are fileld with the rib-aching laughter of terrific story-telling, the sweet melancholy of ballads and the passion of gritty blues. Don't miss Tom Rush and his distinctive guitar style, wry humor and warm, expressive voice that have made him both a legend and a lure to audiences around the world.

David Francey
July 8, 2009
Francey is, without a doubt, Canada's top folk singer and songwriter. Winning three prestigious JUNO Awards (Canada's Grammy) for Album of the Year, Francey has the ability to connect with the audience like no other artist. He brings both intimacy and energy to his performances, mixing slow ballads of everyday life with rousing anthems. David's songs have been performed by artists worldwide. Since 2006, our own Craig Werth has served as accompanist/co-arranger for Francey.

Pine Leaf Boys
July 15, 2009
Louisiana's finest, two-time Grammy-Nominated Pine Leaf Boys have made a name for presenting their own inimitable brand of Cajun music with youthful exuberance. Hailing from southwest Louisiana, the Pine Leaf Boys, known for their wild shows and thoughtful arrangements, have breathed new life into Cajun music, reviving ancient songs and bringing them to the bandstand. Don't miss this "best, new, energetic, and fun Cajun band in a very long time".

Genticorum
July 22, 2009
One of the most sought-after proponents of Quebecois musical culture, Genticorum has performed and toured in over 15 countries. Firmly rooted in the soil of their native land, the energetic and original traditional power trio weaves precise and intricate fiddle and flute work, gorgeous vocal harmonies, energetic foot percussion and guitar and bass accompaniment into a big musical feast. Genticorum and their trademark sound won them the top award at the Canadian Folk Music Awards last year.

RICHIE HAVENS
July 29, 2009
Gifted with one of the most recognizable voices in popular music, Richie Havens has a soulful singing style that remains as unique and ageless as when he first emerged from the Greenwich Village folk scene in the early 1960s. It's a voice that has inspired and electrified audiences from Woodstock in 1969 to the Clinton Presidential Inauguration in 1993 - coming full circle with the 40th Woodstock Anniversary this year! It's by far one of those "DO NOT MISS" concerts at Prescott Park. Trust us. This acoustic soul giant with his eloquent singing and distinctive strumming style is known for his lively, memorable performances.

The Waybacks
August 5, 2009
The Waybacks are possessed with dazzling instrumental chops and an absolute mastery of acoustic music styles. They've been erroneously pigeonholed as a bluegrass band and celebrated as purveyors of "acoustic mayhem". One thing is certain, The Waybacks music is wild, energetic and unpredictable. This multi-instrumental band, including the hot guitar of James Nash and the fiddle virtuosity of Warren Hood, will absolutely blow you away.

Jonathan Edwards
August, 2009
Once you hear Jonathan Edwards' voice, you'll want to hear it again and again. His rich, warm tenor has a distinctively unique and natural quality. Edwards is perhaps most famous for his notable hit songs like Shanty and Sunshine - a deceptively upbeat song that was in fact a protest against the Vietnam War. Starting out opening for acts like the Allman Brothers Band and B.B. King, his career went on to include albums with Emmylou Harris and Jimmy Buffet.

TBA

To be announced shortly.

Lost Bayou Ramblers
(Thursday), August 27, 2009
Get ready for this soulful, foot-stomping, deep swamp Cajun sound coming straight from Louisiana. Cajun music has been percolating in Louisana for the past 300 years. The resulting cultural distillate gave rise to both world famous cuisine and a musical concentrate that conveys the passions, tribulations, and elations of the Cajun people. This Grammy Award nominated group are the keepers of the flame, champions of Cajun music's cultural past. Grab your dancing shoes as you'll never be able to sit still for this concert experience like no other.

The Nouveaux Honkies
(Saturday) August 29, 2009
Originating from a small commercial fishing town, the Honkies started playing in a tiny café on Saturday nights. Their combination of blues, swing and early country soon swallowed the local crowd and this quartet exploded out of the gate recording two albums and leaving a trail of old tonk-style shows from Florida to the Northwest. They have a matchless sound and perform a blistering show with fluid guitar work, reverent vocals and a haunting violin, making them the discovery of the year.
